Production of High Tech Fibers

Properties of Kermel® fiber

Kermel® is naturally non-flammable, which is a permanent characteristic thanks to its chemical structure including a high proportion of aromatic structures and combined double bonds.
Kermel is a smooth-surfaced fiber with an almost circular cross-section. This shape, as well as its modulus, make it comfortable and very pleasant to the touch.
The fiber has a very high resistance to abrasion, a thermal conductivity twice as low as any other aramid fiber. It also has an excellent resistance to chemicals.

Kermel® is solution-dyed during the manufacturing process for lifelong colourfastness.
Colours can withstand UV lights and washing.

KERMEL manufactures two different high technological fibers for two separate applications.

Kermel® Tech is an aromatic polyimide-amide fiber, resulting from polycondensation of toluylene diisocyanate and trimellitic anhydride.
Kermel® is a polyamide-imide, classified in the meta-aramid family.

Kermel® Tech can withstand high temperature in the long run (several years), whereas Kermel® fiber can resist extreme high temperatures (up to 1000°C) during a few seconds.

Kermel® Tech is used for technical applications such as hot gas filtration, while Kermel® is dedicated to protective clothing against heat and flames.

Mechanical properties of Kermel® Tech

Kermel® Tech fiber has an excellent resistance to abrasion thanks to its amorphous structure and its high elongation at break.
